Ongoing Ministries

Saved by Love

Lying in a hospital bed, Aubrey felt old for 26. The last several years had been a whirlwind of bingeing and purging…and drinking to mask the pain.

But even now, ingesting a fifth of vodka nearly every day, the pain still wasn’t going away. Underweight, malnourished and suffering from alcohol-induced hepatitis, Aubrey knew something had to change.

And it did. Aubrey is just one of hundreds whose lives have been transformed through Mercy Ministries—an international organization for young women who struggle with eating disorders, addictions, physical and sexual abuse, suicide and self-mutilation.

She’s also one of the first to attend Mercy’s newest home in St. Louis, Missouri. Opening in 2005, this 2-story, 14,000-square-foot facility was purchased and renovated by Joyce Meyer Ministries and can accommodate 30 women at a time.

Here, they receive vital counseling, accountability and training in life skills. But more importantly, they are immersed in God’s Word and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. More than 130 young women have already received treatment at this location.

Today, Aubrey is a new woman, completely free from her eating disorder and her addiction to alcohol. She recently graduated from Mercy Ministries and has returned to Indiana to obtain her degree in business.

A True Transformation for Prisoners
It all started in December 1998. Looking for a way to reach out to Missouri prisoners, we packed thousands of gift bags with hygiene items and a Joyce Meyer book. Then we delivered them to every prisoner in the state.

Since then, we’ve delivered more than 1.5 million gift bags to prisoners worldwide. In 2007 alone, our teams visited 198 prisons. We delivered more than 153,996 gift bags to prisoners across the U.S. and in nations like Guatemala, South Africa, Brazil and New Zealand. In addition, more than 3,000 prisoners gave their lives to Christ during our in-house worship services.

Not Forgotten
Many gather in their wheelchairs. Others crowd in close, sitting on nearby couches. And for the next hour, they all do something they haven’t done in years—sing.

While St. Louis Dream Center volunteers help turn the pages of the large-print songbooks, the residents of Life Care Nursing Home come to life, soaking in every minute of this uplifting visit.

Each week, Rita Evering and Dream Center volunteers enter nursing homes and senior living complexes throughout the St. Louis area. They bring the hope of Christ and the Gospel message to hundreds needing a loving touch.

Founded by Joyce Meyer Ministries, the St. Louis Dream Center church and outreach center provided over 100,000 meals to the hungry and reached out to more than 25,000 homeless people in 2007.

We also made nearly 40,000 visits to neighboring homes, taught the Word to thousands of children, and ministered to hundreds of prostitutes and drug dealers.

From the “forgotten generation” to the “next generation,” the support of our partners can change the face of an entire community—and revive the dreams of those who need it the most.
