Getting the Message

At 81 years old, Ken Worrell had pretty much seen it all. But after reading one little book, he found what he’d been looking for his entire life.

Born in the town of Modesto, California, Worrell grew up on a ranch during the Great Depression—he knew what it meant to work hard. He eventually married and had children. And like so many other American families, the Worrells pushed through the bad times and rejoiced in the good ones.

But now, things were different. Most of his life was behind him. His kids were grown with children of their own. And his lifelong companion—his wife of 56 years—had recently passed away.

That’s when Ken picked up Joyce’s book The Power of Simple Prayer—the kind of book he normally wouldn’t read. But page by page, something began to happen. He began to pray and talk with God—about everything. Something he’d wanted to do his entire life.

At 81 years old, Ken Worrell experienced the true power of prayer and an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ—and discovered what he had been looking for his entire life.

An Incredible Milestone
Every year we are amazed at the impact Joyce’s books make. And 2007 was no different.

  • In the spring Joyce introduced The Power of Simple Prayer, an instant classic that debuted as a New York Times bestseller.
  • In June Joyce released her first novel, The Penny. Inspiration for the story line and many of the characters came directly from Joyce’s own life.
  • In the fall Joyce followed it up with the release of I Dare You, which also hit the New York Times bestseller list.
  • In 2007 we distributed more than 5 million books by Joyce in a total of 72 languages.

Jacqueline from Ohio writes, “The Penny is the first novel I have read in more than 20 years and I feel totally liberated.”

“I cried, I laughed, and I was surprised how God’s truths were woven into the story,” writes Maurice from Pennsylvania. “God used your book to help deliver me from anger concerning someone who hurt me when I was young. I have forgiven this person and it has made a big difference.”

In all, Joyce has currently published more than 100 books. But the bookstore is not the only place you can find Joyce’s teachings.

The New Mission Field
For a growing number of people, our website has become their main outlet for our latest resource or TV program. In fact, this past year we received an average of 1 million visits each month. Many people come for the free downloads of Joyce’s TV and radio podcasts.

Others simply want to learn more about Joyce Meyer Ministries, access our monthly magazine online, or even browse our eStore for their favorite Joyce Meyer resource.

And in an effort to reach a different audience with our message, we posted videos and other information on sites like YouTube, MySpace and GodTube.

“Today, the Internet is the place where people are talking, and we need to be a part of that conversation,” says Michael Daehn, Web Strategist. “It’s a lot like going on the mission field—it’s unique and you’re venturing out. But if we stay home, how are we going to reach these people? The bottom line is for more people to come to Christ.”

There’s no doubt our mission field is growing. And this past year our foreign-language media has increased as well, reaching people worldwide through our websites in Russian, Arabic, German, French, Farsi and other languages

The Greatest Message of All Time

In 2007 our partners enabled us to minister to millions of people in greater and more effective ways than ever before. And although our methods of ministry are constantly changing, the message of Jesus Christ will always stay the same.
