ST. LOUIS (3/31/08) — Recent floods in the American Midwest have taken the lives of 16 people and forced thousands to evacuate their homes. The states of Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky all received a foot of rain over a 36-hour period, causing many rivers to swell beyond their banks.

From Texas to Ohio, the flooding not only left hundreds of homes and businesses underwater, but it also caused millions of dollars in damage and left thousands with the daunting task of rebuilding and cleaning up the mess left behind.

Missouri, in particular, was hit especially hard, with 70 counties reporting flood conditions. Joyce Meyer Ministries, based in Fenton, Missouri, is constantly working to assist people in crisis situations throughout the world. The ministry is grateful and honored to now reach out to offer both help and hope to those affected by this disaster right in our own backyard.

Through the support of our friends and partners, Joyce Meyer Ministries has teamed up with Service International to bring immediate help to residents in Pacific, Missouri, a town located approximately 20 miles southwest of the ministry’s international headquarters in Fenton. Members of the St. Louis Dream Center, as well as other volunteers, are now working to clean up homes and businesses damaged or ruined by last week's floods.
